The BBC broadcasting House Facility at Ormeau Avenue in Belfast has recently seen extensive works completed to its external facade. The client appointed Main Contractor David Patton to co-ordinate the works, Larsen Contracts Ltd were selected as the specialist Concrete repair and brickwork contractor. The scope of work was to carry out the condition survey, and structural works to the reinforced concrete elements, brick work replacement, re-pointing and jointing of all movement joints. The facade was then treated with a protective coating to reduce the effects of freeze thaw on the brickwork and carbonation on the concrete elements. Given the nature and noise element of much of the works, the co-ordination of activities had to ensure that there was zero noise pollution during broadcasting. A team of specialists worked closely with the main contractor and client to deliver the programme on time, working on a shift basis to complete the noisy works, the reinstatement works could carry on during normal working hours.
