Danone is a major global business supplying products that bring health benefits such as leading brands Actimel, Activia, Danone Danone Ireland Ltd approached Larsen Contracts to undertake perform chemical resistant coatings and bund lining works to refurbish existing bunds to comply with strict environmental legislation. Larsen staff assessed the condition of existing bunds as well as the chemicals they are required to contain. Flowcrete’s ATB 300 corrosion protection system was selected to deal with potential caustic soda spills. The existing asphalt within the bunds had to be removed using hand held kango hammers and the underlying slabs and walls were mechanically prepared with a floor grinder to remove any contaminates and to provide a good key for the new coating. A fairing coat was applied to the walls to repair any surface defects. Walls and floors were primed with ATB 300 primer and two coats of ATB 300 RC were applied. Other bunds in place dealing with less aggressive contaminants utilised a Sika Combiflex bandage around the complete structure at the junction of the wall and the slab. A fairing coat was then applied to the walls. Finally, the floors and walls were given two final coats of Larcote PE. Production continued uninterrupted during these works in adverse wintry weather due to the extensive experience of Larsen Contracts in bund refurbishment.
